While most Psychiatrists and medical doctors will diagnose patients with mental illness, many Christians believe these patients may not mentally ill at all. Instead they believe that mental illness is really demons possessing a person's body. The following paragraphs will take a closer look at why Christians today still believe in demons and demon possession.
While some mental illness is caused by some sort of physical or mental deficiency, and can be treated with modern day medicine, some Christians believe that some mental illness can only be healed or cured by God. They believe that when this type of mental illness occurs, it is because the sick person has been possessed by demons. There is no medicine that can successfully treat mental illness caused by demons. Some Christians believe the only way to get rid of demons is by God coupled with spiritual deliverance. The Holy Bible makes many mentions of demons, or unclean spirits. Demons in the Holy Bible are also referred to as: evil spirits, fallen angels, Satan's angels. There are many verses in the Holy Bible that deal with demons and demons being driven out of people. These verses include Matthew 12:22 and Luke 4:41. Although many Christians still believe that some cases of mental illness are caused by being possessed by demons, many medical experts remain skeptical. Science has successfully proven to many that most mental illness can be explained by medical science. Thus, this information is used to dispute the fact that there is a modern day connection between being possessed by demons and mental illness. However, no matter what medical science disputes, many Christians are firm in their belief in demon possession. The Holy Bible is firmly believed to be the word of God, and it speaks time and time again about the relation between the two. |
